Phalaenopsis cornu cervi chattalade

Compact plant, very floriferous. Growers love to use this as stock plant for new hybrids because of the potential to create new hybrids with high flower count. From being a very rare and expensive specie , it is now one of the most affordable and commonly available orchid. Thanks to the taiwanese and tissue culture.

 

Its getting heavy

Almost 70% bloomed, weight of the flowers putting stress on the spike, additional support tied to prevent the 2 m spike from breaking.

Every orchid grower will at some point in time fall in love with this specie orchid. If not by the fragrance then its the simplicity and beauty of the blooms.... and then there is the excitment of finding the the better, rounder and larger boom.

Phalaenopsis ken schubert in bloom, growing it in a more shaded higher humidity area.

Small but showy

Blooms are not large like most other cornu-cervi hybrids but its got multi-spike showy potential.

This was in bloom too, bought as seedling from a Thai hybridizer this is the first bloom. Phalaenopsis luddemanniana X  Phalaenopsis pulchra.

The tiger is back

Came back from holidays to find the Tiger in bloom. One of the earlier additions to the garden , this must have been here for close to 20 years.  The last bloom saw 4 spikes ... this time only one but the flowers are in much better shape and colour more intense.
