A surprise bloom

Found this flower spike growing on the Bulbophyllum beccarii while spraying fertiliser this morning. I grow this orchid almost horizontally so I probably will not get to see the full glory of this flowering. Still it is a nice surprise !   This is the second specimen that has flowered for me. The first was a much smaller specimen which i grew mounted on a wooden board and tied to a palm tree. It didn't grow as well and I think there was not enough humidity and wetness to grow well. This specimen grown horizontally tied to cork bark and placed on cut styrofoam boxes grows much better. I could provide more moisture and humidity by covering the the sides with wet spaghnum moss.

Golden cycad

A not so common golden cycad growing new leaves after hybernation.....  I found this at chaktuchak market long time ago. Those were the days when you could find really good specimens. These days its mostly just nursery propagated plants and orchids.

Super panther

I first saw this Taiwanese hybrid weeks ago when I send some seedlings for germination but did not buy any as they were not blooming yet. I saw it for a second time at one of my usual orchid stalls the blooms were not impressive...  the third time I saw this one and couldn't resist. It a bit dehyrated and the flowers are cupped but the markings and colour intensity is just lovely. Looking forward to future blooms already !!  Somehow my photo doesn't capture enough the beauty of this hybrid.

First bloom...

A first bloom from this Phalaenopsis dunman high seedling after several failed attempts. The first flower spike was half bitten off by the birds and the second spike had the first couple of buds eaten.  Thick petals and nice intense colour pretty happy with it.

Dendrobium bangkok sunset

Glad I put up the nettings, more blooms are making it across the finishing line.  The recent heat spell is great for the dendrobiums.
